Port Talbot schools are celebrating successful A level results after students picked up their grades on results day.
Schools across Port Talbot are celebrating following excellent A level results achieved by students. Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera and St Josephs sixth form both achieved a pass rate of 98 per cent with 81 per cent of passes being A*-C grade. A third of students in the schools attained the top A and A* grades.
Neath Port Talbot college, known as NPTC Group, also shared such success after it achieved a 99 per cent pass rate for the tenth consecutive year. On top of this, 42 out of the 44 courses on offer at the college achieved a 100 per cent pass rate.
Neath Port Talbot Council Leader Ali Thomas said: “This is another set of outstanding results for the county borough and I congratulate the pupils, staff and their parents for all their efforts. We are very proud of them all. I wish the students every success in their future endeavours.”
There was also increased success for students at the top end of the grading system, however the overall pass percentage dropped from previous years.
However, in congratulating successful students, local Conservative AM Angela Burns was quick to point out the “performance gap” between Wales and England, stating that “these results show the bulk of our students are being let down. It’s still clear that effective progress is desperately required and I urge Labour ministers to provide guarantees for the future.”
