Port Talbot Town secured three points away to Bangor City on Saturday following a dramatic late goal from substitute Jonathan Hood.
Ryan Edwards broke the deadlock for the home side in the 53rd minute. The Blues levelled matters 15 minutes later with a Joe Clark effort following a Chris Jones free kick. The teams looked set to share the spoils until Blues substitute, Jonathan Hood, struck with three minutes to run ensuring Andy Dyer’s side came away with all three points.
The affair got off to a lively start. An immediate attack on the Port Talbot box saw Natty Woodward fire just wide, an attempt that set the precedent for what was to be a lively encounter between the two sides.
There was to be more action at the seven minute mark when Bangor livewire, Perya Ahmadi, broke through the Port Talbot defence only to be brought down by Cortez Belle. The Blues defender earned himself a yellow card for his challenge, much to the dismay of the Nantporth faithful who were gunning for a red.
The Blues were subject to a barrage of attacks on goal during the opening twenty minutes, but despite their domination Bangor failed to capitalise by hitting the scoresheet.
Joseph Jones joined Belle in the referee’s book after 25 minutes following foul that broke down an attacking play from Bangor.
Bangor looked dangerous at the half-hour mark. Bangor striker, Sion Edwards, broke forward with support forcing Cortez Belle to put in a strong challenge that deflected the ball out for a corner kick. Steve Cann claimed the resulting corner kick, showing a good command of his area.
Both sides continued to spur chances in the first half as the sides went into the break at 0-0.
The second half began with both sides diving in to some rash challenges. However, it was not long after that Ryan Edwards’ drive gave the home side the lead.
Sion Edwards almost made it two for the Citizens when he successfully turned through the Port Talbot defence on the edge of the box before letting rip on goal. The effort forced Cann to make an excellent save.
Port Talbot levelled matters at 68 minutes. A Chris Jones volley found itself at the feet of Joe Clarke who hit home to make it 1-1 with just over 20 minutes on the clock.
Clarke was lucky to not have been dismissed just minutes later when jumping with Bangor defender, Sam Hart. Hart was caught in the face by Clarke’s elbow. The referee deemed the incident worthy of a yellow card.
Bangor came close to taking the lead again on the 82nd minute. A Damian Allen shot fired just wide of the post.
It was, however, Port Talbot who went on to find a winner. With three minutes to go, Hood hit home in emphatic fashion to silence the Bangor contingent and seal three points for the away side.
Port Talbot Town development side also kicked off their campaign with a hard fought 2-1 victory over Pen-y-Bont.
